Multisector stakeholder engagement

Wessex Country Water and Environment is working with a range of sectors across the region to develop a coordinated and comprehensive resources plan that extends beyond water company boundaries.

Working with stakeholders to shape our region’s plan

A multisector approach to regional planning is recommended in the National Framework for Water (2020) because it:

  • supports growth and access to water in our region, across sectors
  • considers the benefits of proposed supply side options to water users, other than public water supply.

Multisector Stakeholder Group (MSG)

We have established a forum to:

  • share views and knowledge on resource management
  • explore collaborative solutions to resource challenges
  • hear essential insight from a range of interested organisations, businesses and sectors.

By working together we are building a better understanding of current and future water needs across sectors, exploring the use of non-public water supply in the West Country.

The full membership of the MSG meets quarterly, with smaller sector specific or 1-1 meetings in between to ensure all member sectors have ample opportunity to share their perspectives.

The following sectors are represented:

  • agri-food
  • energy
  • environment
  • landowner and riparian
  • mineral extraction and exploration
  • tourism.

We are always looking to grow membership of this vital group. If you would like to find out more or get involved please contact us.

Future work

Members of the group are playing a vital role in supporting our regional planning efforts and ensuring sustainable water resource management for the future. Together we are shaping the future of the region.
